Mountain Bounty Farm celebrates 16 years of family farming this year.
A 15-acre family farm located high on the forested contours of the
San Juan Ridge near Nevada City,
Mountain Bounty is the longest running
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
program in Nevada County.
This relatively new social model connects you to your food, the land, and to
those that tend the soil. CSA is an economic system that allows you to make a
direct connection with a family farm; a farm you know, a farm that adopts
careful land stewardship practices,
and a farm which produces exceptional quality food.
The benefits of a CSA based food system are many.
Besides providing fresh organically grown produce,
CSA farms provide non-farmers with an understanding of the
challenges and rewards of farming.
As a customer at Mountain Bounty,
you participate in the risks and uncertainties of farming
as well as sharing the bountiful harvests. 
Having direct contact with the land through your food and your farm can be a
tremendously rewarding experience. Belonging to Mountain Bounty Farm benefits
you, your family, the local economy, and the environment.
The farm is run by husband and wife, John Tecklin and Angie Tomey,
who share a love for the land and a passion for eating good food.
When John started the farm his goal was to provide excellent quality food for the community
as well as serve as a successful model for small scale farming.
John also says that farming has benefited his own family,
“I feel so fortunate to be raising my boys, Noah and Jude on the farm,
and to be able to show them where their food comes from.
They have been raised in the fields … discovering their favorite foods, like fennel!”
John explains that, “We want the farm to be a place of inspiration and beauty,
a place to reconnect to food and the joys of food culture.
We hope that Mountain Bounty will be a farm to celebrate,
a farm that you help create and sustain for the future.”
By making their produce readily available using the CSA system, John and Angie
have spent 16 years
helping those around them to appreciate food as well as all the steps which go into making it.
Mountain Bounty Farm is not only celebrating 16 years of friendly
and effective business,
but it’s also participating once again
in South Lake Tahoe’s Sample the Sierra this year.
Not only are we glad to have Mountain Bounty back on our list of participants, but
John himself agrees with our enthusiasm, saying, “We’ve seen our CSA membership
grow tremendously in South Shore since 2012,
and we’re proud to be working with area chefs for the event to highlight local, fresh produce.”
